It was always assumed that the question "Which is the superior sex?" was a rhetorical question but apparently, some girlies are still under the illusion (or should that be delusion) that they can compete with men on an equal basis (Yes, it makes me laugh too).

And now, Ipswich Town midfield, Ian Westlake, decided to put the 'fairer sex' in the place once and for all. During the summer, he was watching the women's swimming in the Olympics (as many of us were) and after watching Ipswich based swimmer, Karen Pickering, he reckoned he could beat her.

As with many of these things, it only takes a flippant comment to get the ball rolling and on Sunday 31st October, a race was set up between Westlake and Pickering at the Crown Pools in Ipswich. Karen is Britain's most decorated female swimmer and had managed to get plenty of rest before the event. She has also appeared for Great Britain at 4 Olympic Games while Ian had played a tough game the day before and got a bit of a kicking off one of the opposition players.

The outcome......7/2 outsider Ian Westlake lead from start to finish and won. 1-0 to the Tractorboys, as the song goes.
